BUUIC Presents Academic Research and Projects

On November 5, 2024, BUUIC hosted guest speaker Dr. Alexandre Barthel from the Institute of Asian Studies, Chulalongkorn University. Dr. Barthel delivered an engaging lecture on presenting complex academic content to diverse audiences.

In his lecture, he shared valuable advice and experiences, emphasizing considerations researchers must make when presenting their work. He offered insightful perspectives on how principles and values essential to good research—such as curiosity, a deep understanding of reality, and honesty—apply to all aspects of human experience, from social interactions with family and friends to business and career.

The lecture also featured a demonstration of one of his presentations, highlighting how analyzing the different coverage of two similar events in China and Japan in the 1920s can deepen our understanding of how the media shapes our perception of the world today. Dr. Barthel explained the behind-the-scenes efforts scholars undertake when conducting research and producing academic content.

The lecture concluded with a lively and insightful Q&A session, where participants discussed topics such as the use of AI and technology in research, biases in the selection and analysis of sources, and approaches for addressing difficult or sensitive content.
