On August 6, 2025, students from the Faculty of Computer Science and the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), joined an academic and community service project at Sichang Island, Chon Buri, Thailand aiming to promote cross-cultural exchange, community engagement, and sustainable development initiatives led by Dr. Siriporn Khetjenkarn, Mr. Chanintorn Chaingthong, and BUUIC student club members who worked together to facilitate meaningful learning experiences for the visiting NUS students.
NUS students engaged in community-based learning through two key initiatives: the development of blue crab ice cream, which showcased local innovation, improved packaging design, and supported sustainable economic growth; and marine conservation activities at the Sichang Island Blue Crab Bank, where they planted soft corals and released juvenile crabs and cuttlefish. Supported by the Government Savings Bank and under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, these projects highlighted the importance of sustainability, cultural identity, and environmental stewardship.
In addition to their service activities, students enjoyed exploring local attractions and contributed to initiatives aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 2: Zero Hunger and Goal 14: Life Below Water. This collaborative project strengthened the academic and cultural ties between BUUIC and NUS, fostering mutual learning, community empowerment, and a shared commitment to sustainability.
